GNOME: disable computer/home/wastebasket icons on desktop

A couple days ago I went back to my roots –> Debian with GNOME. I love minimalism and simple desktops, so I decided to turn off any desktop icons. In some distros it is not as easy as you could imagine. There aren’t any switches in preferences. But there is a very easy way to tweak application in GNOME.  Open terminal and type:
gconf-editor
now hit enter.

You should see new window. Now go to apps/nautilus/desktop.

Are you sure that gconf is installed by default now? Because I’m sure, that it wasn’t. :)

BTW, I like your idea of minimalism. Actually you could even use different desktop environment such as: Fluxbox or Wmii. Wmii is pretty interesting anyway and is really worth to at least look at it.

Oh wait, I got confused cause everyone is writing about Ubuntu these days. Debian after the clean installation doesn’t have almost anything. ;D
